+What were the people of Corinth commanded to do "if any have caused grief"?
They, as we are, commanded to forgive and comfort one another. We are to be "obedient in all
things." (2 Cor 2:9) That entails forgiving, comforting and loving others.
+What blessings do we see if we forgive?
We can see from these three scriptures alone that if we forgive others, the Lord will forgive us. As
it so clearly says in Matthew 6:14-15, when we forgive our fellow men of their mistakes, so then
will our Father in Heaven forgive us of our sins. That is a significant blessing. It really portrays
how important it is for us to forgive all men no matter the deed. It is not up to us to judge or hold a
grudge. We need to put it all aside and let God be the judge. For when we are able to do that,
then our own sins will be forgiven by the Lord, too.
+What is the danger in failing to forgive?
If we seek not to forgive our brethren, likewise will Heavenly Father not forgive us. Moreover, as it
is revealed in D&C 64:9-10, if we do not forgive our "brother his trespasses" we will stand
condemned before the Lord. And we will be the one with the "greater sin." Thus, we must seek to
forgive our neighbors. We would be wise to be quick to forgive always.
(I updated my blog on Choice 2 from Unit 2 of reading the following scriptures and responding to the questions regarding forgiveness.
I did this because forgiveness is something I need to learn to be
quicker to do. The inability to forgive and love one another has been a
huge fault in some members of my extended family. It saddens me greatly
(and the Lord I'm sure) to think of what it has done to our loving
family just because we can't seem to forgive one another of each others
mistakes.
My favorite thing about this assignment was seeing the same commandment come from the New Testament, The Book of Mormon and
The Doctrine and Covenants. That really stresses how vital it is that
we first forgive our fellow men of their sins. After all, it is a
commandment.)
